Molly from 'Insecure' is #Goals for Black Women with Goals

'

My newly favorite, coveted television show is Insecure on HBO created by Black Girl Boss Issa Rae. I have been following Issa's career since her Awkward Black Girl series debuted on YouTube. Insecure is a show that is here for Black Millennials, in a different way than most shows for young people. I won't get too in depth about the show, because I am specifically here to talk about Molly's character. Molly plays Issa's best friend, and she is a successful lawyer, whom lacks control of love life. Molly has everything, a great job, fancy clothes, and overly supportive friends. Molly isn't the stereotypical Black Woman, but don't get it twisted she loves #DoingItForTheCulture and isn't afraid to be herself even in the board room. Molly is college educated and even went to law school, which doesn't mean she isn't allowed to party or enjoy rap music. Molly is graceful with class and can even be considered a modern day Toni Childs, if you're old enough to remember the show Girlfriends.

Why Molly is goals? I believe she is a real representation of a successful young black woman. Just because you went to college and have a degree, or a nice job does not mean you're exempt from facing racism, dating/relationship issues, and other sh*t millennials go through in life. On the show, Molly dates different men, in hopes of finding Mr. Right. Many women, in their mid-20s, do feel the need to settle down, and aside from stress at work, there is social pressure and stress to become married. The successful women on this show do curse, which is something that makes the characters more real and relatable. Issa and Molly are very smart, and can switch things up between the Oxford Dictionary and the art of being on fleek.  I've seen mixed reviews about this show and Molly's character, and I've watched enough episode to give thumbs up of approval!
