Lately, I have been getting back into reading. I can confess, I lost my love of reading since high school. I haven't read a good book in awhile for the exception of the Kardashian sister's novel Dollhouse. I purchased L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad after hearing great reviews from two sister's YouTube channel I subscribe to (Glamtwinz334). By the way I love their channel. They are very sweet young ladies. I thank them for doing a review of the series on their youtube channel. The L.A. Candy series was featured in their May Favorites video. Apparently, I slept on this series for awhile now. The cover of the books are sweet, cute, and welcoming. To be honest, I never bothered to read the series because it is marketed towards 'teens'. I'm in my early twenties. After reading this book, it baffles me as to why it's marketed towards teens. Some of the subject matter and concepts, have adult-like themes. That would be my only con to this book. I would not have read this book if it wasn't for Glamtwinz334 on youtube. I am in the same age group as these girls. I was schocked to see young women in my age group, reading this novel. The marketing and audience it is geared towards throws you off a bit.
I was a big fan of The Hills. I thought this series wasn't for me, since it was categorized as a 'teen' novel. I must admit, L.A. Candy is awesome! The book left me wating more. I couldn't wait to read the next book of the series. The series is like a modern day Sex in the City fantasy. I love reading novels that are deemed 'girly'. I can also speculate the book is based loosely off of The Hills (slightly Laguna Beach as well, in my opinion). Some of the characters and plots are the complete opposite of what you seen on The Hills. In turn, the book/series is very relevant to Lauren Conrad's actual life. I'm not giving away much in this review. I think it is a must read. If you're looking for something to read this would be it!. The pro about this book, is the fact that it gives fans of The Hills... and even Laguana Beach a spin off that's in the form of a book.
Today, I went back to the bookstore, to purchase Sweet Little Lies and Sugar and Spice. I believe the most recent novel that was published is called Fame. I am pleased so far with the second book, Sweet Little Lies. The characters in the L.A. Candy novel are: Jane (main character), Scarlett, Madison, Gaby, Braden, Diego, Jessie, Caleb, Liam, Trevor Lord, Veronica, Fiona Chen, etc. These are all the major character's names I can remember. In my opinion, all the characters in this series are very real and relatable to the readers. It's hard to find that quality in most books. I think I can identify myself mostly with Scarlett who is Jane's best friend. If you want to know more about Scarlett, READ THE BOOK! As always this is my honest opinion and input. I also paid $9.99 at my local bookstore for each book (L.A. Candy, Sweet Little Lies, and Sugar and Spice. The price isn't bad, and well worth the money. I recommend this book to young women who are within the age range of 14-25. If you love fashion, beauty, and drama, then this book may be just for you!
