My Favorite Natural Hair Products

Hey everyone,

I want to share with you all today my favorite natural hair products. These are the products I have been using over the course of 2 years. Some products, I have "discovered" during my journey and transition to natural hair. I have been using these products, before I began transitioning.  I have been faithful to these products with very little various in my current hair care regimen. I'm going to break down everything into four categories: shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, and styling aids. Many of my products are interchangeable, meaning they can be used for more than one purpose. I want to make a note, that I like to use products that contain very little chemical processing. I either use products that are considered 90 something % natural or made with organic ingredients. Lets get started!

Shampoo:
  • Kinky Curly's Come Clean Shampoo (I use this as a clarifying shampoo twice a month).
  • Giovanni's Tea Tree Triple Threat Shampoo (Clarifying shampoo, I alternate this twice a month between Kinky Curly's Come Clean).
  • Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo (I use this almost every wash day. It makes my hair baby soft, without stripping it dry of moisture.
  • Karen's Body Beautiful Juicy Shampoo Bar. (Ultra gentle on my hair. I like to use this mainly  in the winter when I do not want my hair feeling squeaky clean).
Conditioner:
  • Karen's Body Beautiful Luscious Locks Hair Mask (I love, love, love this mask! It makes my hair feel like fine silk. It took me a long time to find a go-to deep conditioner).
  • Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Restorative Masque (I use this when my hair feels like it is overwhelmed by moisture. I also use this to co-wash my hair midweek).
  • Giovanni Direct Leave-In (I love this leave-in. It works great as a deep conditioner, co-wash, and leave in, enough said)
Leave-in: * What I consider a "leave-in",  is something like a "lightweight' conditioner to put on my hair freshly washed, co-washed, or on soaking wet hair.
  • Kinky Curly's Knot Today (I love this, it keeps my hair tangle-free, soft, supple, and moisturized. I use this a leave-in conditioner. This is too expensive and is often sold out in the stores to use this to co-wash).
  • Giovanni Direct Leave-In (listed above under "conditioner").
  • Shea Moisture's Organic Raw Shea Butter Conditioner (This has a very light consistency. I like to use this as a leave-in conditioner or as a co-wash conditioner.
Styling aids: * My styling aids, consist of water based moisture products (like a hair milk), hair butters, and oils
  • Karen's Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia (This one of of the first products I tried from this line 2 years ago when my hair was in horrible shape from a bad relaxer. I use this product to achieve sleek, moisturized buns, and twist/braid outs. I always buy this scent in "vanilla latte". This product keeps my hair very soft and moisturized for days).
  • Shea Moisture's Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk (I use this product in conduction with KBB's Sweet Ambrosia. This is my main styling product I layer over the Sweet Ambrosia. It's a tad bit thicker and gives me great defined twist/braid outs. I also get slightly medium hold in a bun from this product as well).
  • Karen's Body Beautiful Heavenly Jojoba Oil (I use this product as a hot oil treatment sometimes. I mainly use it on my scalp as needed and to seal the ends of my hair. This product has a blend of other natural oils to promote hair growth. I also use this to massage my scalp with midweek).
  • Trader Joe's Jojoba Oil (I like to use Trader Joe's brand of pure Jojoba Oil however, any brand will do fine. I use this on my hair everyday. I mainly use this, to seal the ends of my hair for braid/twist outs. This product gives my hair great shine as well.
  • Karen's Body Beautiful Butter Love (This is just a blend of different butters that is like a pomade. I use this on my scalp and for slicking down my edges. I also buy this product in the "vanilla" Latte scent).
  • Nutriva Coconut Oil (I use this as a overnight hair treatment/hot oil. I don't recommend using this product in the dead of winter, this product, may solidity in colder temperatures. I do love that this product gives my hair great shine and leave it strong and soft).

These are my favorite products to use on my transitioning hair. I don't really venture out and use new products, I spent my early days of transitioning, trying new products. At 6 months post relaxer, I find that it is important to keep my regimen simple and consistent. You can probably tell, I mainly stay within the Karen's Body Beautiful and Shea Moisture line. This list of products may change over time, once I am fully natural. For now, these are the products I have been loving before I decided to transition to natural hair.
